Abstract

The reading of Afanasyev's Russian Folk Tales led us to investigate
carefully about the figure of Baba Yaga, who as most of the witches in most stories represented evil, and also her presence in Spain throughout children's stories. This investigation verified that of all the figures present in the myths and legends of the Slavic tradition in general, and the Russian in particular, none of them has had an influence among Spanish readers as the witch Baba Yaga. The present work has been carried out with the clear intention of setting the figure of the witch Baba Yaga as the most representative of Russian folklore in Spain. Also, given its importance, this character can be used for didactic purposes and to promote values and traditions.
