Resistencia, corporalidade e identidade no proxecto testemuñal de Chanel Miller

Resumo

Considerado un antecedente do movemento #MeToo, o caso da violación de Chanel Miller por Brock Turner en 2016 —coñecido popularmente como o caso da violación de Stanford— impulsou a conciencia pública acerca da violencia sexual como un fenómeno cultural e institucionalmente lexitimado, e fomentou a empatía cara ao testemuño das superviventes. Este ensaio examina o proxecto testemuñal de Miller, constituído pola súa declaración xudicial, difundida pouco despois do xuízo, e polas súas memorias, Know My Name, publicadas tres anos máis tarde. Seguindo a teoría de Leigh Gilmore sobre o testemuño como un vehículo de resistencia constituído a través de redes, este ensaio estuda como o caso de Miller ilustra as posibilidades e limitacións do testemuño para acadar xustiza en diversos espazos de poder. O ensaio continúa analizando o interese de Miller no corpo como un espazo de resistencia e comunidade, en liña coa teoría de Judith Butler sobre o potencial político da exposición do corpo nos espazos públicos. A análise conclúe cunha ollada crítica á identidade narrativa de Miller, que, segundo suxire Tanya Serisier, se presenta de maneira estratéxica como universal e atravesada por narrativas heroicas arredor da herdanza étnica. En definitiva, o ensaio interpreta o testemuño de Miller como un caso paradigmático das narrativas do movemento #MeToo, propoñendo unha política de resistencia testemuñal e corporal, ás veces en conflito, pero sempre centrada na vítima.
