Why can men get excited by exercising violence? An analysis of the invisibility and eroticization of sexual violence against women in pornography

Abstract
This article presents some results of an investigation on how pornography collaborates in the reproduction of sexual violence against women through the construction of men's sexual desire. The analysis identifies three strategies related to the reproduction of said violence, which operate both within pornography and in society as a whole: the invisibilization of sexual violence as violence and its normalization and erotization as if it were sex, the direct erotization of sexual violence as violence, and the link between sexuality and power inequality between men and women. This article analyzes how these three strategies operate and proposes some paths that permit an advance towards their deactivation, with the final objective of building societies that guarantee the fulfillment of the human right of women and girls to a life free of violence.
