Resumo

O cancro de mama cobrou unha visibilidade sen precedentes no Estado español. Tras uns orixes preocupados polo carácter opresivo do rol da paciente e os determinantes sociais da incidencia do cancro, as últimas tres décadas caracterizáronse por unha preocupación co diagnóstico temperán da enfermidade a través de programas de cribado e de campañas solidarias de concienciación. A priori parece que hebería que festexar esta politización progresiva do cancro de mama que o puxo na axenda nacional.  Neste artigo argumento que o político entrou en crise, despolitizando a enfermidade sen tan só levantar sospeitas entre os sectores máis críticos do país, incluido o feminista. Retomo á crítica da ‘sobreinvisibilización’ do cancro de mama da antropóloga vasca Mari Luz Esteban (2017) para demostrar cómo nos atopamos nunha situación na que a premisa ‘o fin xustifica os medios’ colonizou o pensamiento colectivo. Esta colonización limita a capacidade das institucións, persoas, organizacións, profesionais e corporacións de facer autocrítica. Prantexámonos cuestións entorno a qué temas se abordan, cómo se fala da enfermidade, cómo se representa ás mulleres e qué temas permanecen silenciados ou tabú. Para ilustrar a despolitización presentarei exemplos dos dous elementos que compoñen a sobreinvisibilización: os discursos e prácticas sobre o cancro de mama hipervisibles e aqueles que son invisibilizados. Os primeiros son dominantes, monotemáticos e perpetúan mensaxes androcéntricos. Os invisibilizados raramente chengan ao ámbito público, principalmente porque cuestionan o status quo da industria do cancro.
