Readings of Eisenman. Semiotics, the early work of Peter Eisenman and contemporary artistic experiences

This paper aims to deepen, from specific precedent works on the subject, on the relationships between form and meaning proposed in the early work of the architect Peter Eisenman, who, relying on theoretical principles coming from semiotics, intends to accomplish a discipline refoundation based on the reduction of the architectural to its syntactic aspect, with an exclusion, in particular, of meaning. The confrontation of this stance either with parallel contemporary artistic experiences and with the changes occurred in the field of philosophy in those years, as well as the criticism from the architectural discipline, will show the difficulties of the eisenmanian program.Downloads
