The purpose of this essay is to present a brief contextualization about a stand that was organized to welcome the participants of the XXI Brazilian Meeting of Ichthyology that took place in Recife, from February 1 to 6, 2015, in Brazil. Aspects of ichthyology were focused, with emphasis on knowledge and dissemination of the work Historia Naturalis Brasilia (Amsterdam, 1648) by Piso and Marcgrave, naturalists who came to Brazil, at the invitation of Count João Mauricio de Nassau, during the period of the Dutch occupation in Pernambuco. Other reference and historical landmarks of the State of Pernambuco were highlighted as a thematic group explored, within an environmental education approach. An existential context was sought, involving different eras and also a multifaceted conceptual context, where complex elements with different configurations (social, ecological, cultural, artistic and historical) could intertwine and reflect.
