Germanisms in the Dictionary of Authorities

Until today, studying Germanisms in the academic dictionaries is a pending investigation. This article analyzes the Royal Academy's early work, The Dictionary of Authorities, which was the basis for further work. Collectively, there are 55 Germanisms, which are declared as such and authorized partly by Covarrubias and others by the Academy itself. Our study describes each stage of entering the Germanisms, the designations given in The Dictionary of Authorities, and the lexicographical authorities that the Academy used to endorse the etymology.Downloads
