Social and environmental training of USP employees and the “Sustainability is ...” Project

The Socioenvironmental Training Project for Technical and Administrative Servants of the University of São Paulo (USP), started in 2013 and coordinated by its Environmental Management Superintendence (SGA), aims to achieve, through participatory processes structured in a capillarity architecture, around 16 thousand university employees. Within this process, together with other communication proposals, the Project “Sustainability is ...” was an educational research-action experience. This project involved the process of building texts authored by civil servants about their conceptions and practices related to the sustainability and publication of this material in the university's digital space. The objective was to make use of the attributes and potentials of digital communication at the institutional level to reinforce values, identities and practices associated with the ideals of sustainability. The results include the production and publication of 38 testimonials on the Training Project website that show the involvement and engagement of these employees in the search for a more sustainable world and university. In continuity with this proposal, guidelines have been developed, together with the Work Groups involved in the construction of Environmental Policies at the University, to promote environmental education actions in USP media and socio-environmental educommunication practices in the university context.
