The article at hand seeks to show the special semantic and syntactic characteristics of the Spanish verb asquear (to sicken). Among these, the most noteworthy is its duality, in other words, its adlative (Alguien asqueó un alimento = “Someone rejected a certain food”) and ablative (Un alimento asqueó a alguien = “A certain food sickened someone”) possibilities that can give rise to lexical oppositions, such as in ask/answer, or buy/sell. However, in this case, asquear actually deals with variants of the same meaning. The present study also serves as a base for the proposal of the corresponding lexicographic article for the Diccionario Coruña de la lengua actual (DCLEA).
