Since the mid-sixties of the twentieth century, and as a consequence of the impulse provoked by the Second Vatican Council, occurred in Galicia, over the course of about twenty years, many initiatives in the field of social and community education promoted by the most dynamic and committed sectors of the Catholic Church. These were initiatives that were carried out, mainly, from a model of organization called "Christian communities of base", meaning by such small groups of people who shared faith within their daily life usually in depressed or marginal contexts both of rural Galicia and of urban emerging at the time of so-called developmentalism through relationships of mutual support, living their religious commitment on the margins of conventional orthodoxy.
