The book focuses on three key aspects of the traumatic episode that changed the life of the teacher, poet and editor Xosé María Álvarez Blázquez forever. De Gabriel uses Álvarez Blázquez’s teacher’s diary to reconstruct his personal – though by no means unique – experience of reprisal and repression, a fate shared by school teachers all over Spain following the military coup in 1936.
