Evaluation of Control and Reconstruction Strategies in Adaptive Optics

The development of adaptive optics (AO) systems for next-generation telescopes demands control strategies capable of compensating for atmospheric distortions with high spatial and temporal precision. This work presents the study of an AO control loop, focusing on two components: the reconstruction process and the controller. First, the effect of modal truncation applied to the Moore-Penrose pseudoinverse used to compute the reconstruction matrix is analyzed. As a result, a suitable truncation parameter range (ε ≈ 0.025–0.05) that maximizes the Strehl ratio has been identified. In addition, the system's dynamic performance is assessed through the use of a leaky integrator controller, showing effective correction under adverse atmospheric conditions. The simulations, carried out in OOPAO, are based on the single-conjugate adaptive optics (SCAO) scheme proposed for the European Solar Telescope (EST).
