Membrane distillation is emerging as a promising technology for concentrating brine from reverse osmosis, thus making the most widely used desalination method today more sustainable. To optimize the brine concentration process, it is essential to implement control strategies and an appropriate monitoring system to maintain stable operating conditions. This work presents the development of a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for a membrane distillation plant at a demonstrative scale, located at the Agroconnect infrastructure of the University of Almer´ıa. Specifically, a SCADA system is proposed for regulatory control of the plant’s flow rate, which is integrated into a Docker container network based on open-source software, offering several advantages in terms of virtualization.
