Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into higher education is generating transformations in both teaching methodologies and academic management. Far from being a passing novelty, AI has become an increasingly present tool in university classrooms, used by both faculty and students. This paper offers a critical reflection on this reality, addressing historical aspects, such as the earliest proposals for educational automation, and analyzing the current uses of AI in real learning contexts. Ethical issues are raised related to decision-making, the limitations of these systems in accurately interpreting human situations, and the risk of depersonalizing the educational process. In addition, the importance of providing adequate training to all university personnel, faculty, students and administrative teams, is emphasized in order to ensure a responsible and pedagogically sound integration. In conclusion, a balanced approach is proposed in which technology complements educational work without replacing critical thinking, creativity or human interaction.
