Abstract

This paper focuses on the corrective maintenance of critical components onboard small vessels using 3D scanning and printing. The operation of a marine engine's cooling system is described and fault detection of the seawater pump is considered. To enable repair of the pump, the paper details how to perform 3D scanning and printing onboard. The paper analyzes the most suitable materials for 3D printing in the marine environment, and presents three alternatives for the manufacture and assembly of the pump impeller.
