Abstract

In the last decades, research studies related to motor competence have shown that there is a decrement in the level of motor competence among the adolescents. Stodden et al. presented a conceptual model that related motor competence and perceived motor competence with physical and sport practice. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the three variables. 970 students from 12 to 16 years have participated in this study. There has been measured the level of motor competence with the SPORTCOMP battery and they have filled the AMPET questionnaire that measures the achievement motivation. The results show that the students from this study have a medium level of motor competence and perceived motor competence. At the same time, the 60% of the sample practices sport and physical activity every week. In order to the relation between variables the results present that there are significant differences between the three variables. On the other hand, it has been shown that adolescents that practice physical and sport activity more frequently, showed higher levels of motor competence and perceived motor competence.
