Motivation and intention to be physically active in school physical education students

Currently, it is becoming increasingly important to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle in the population in general and at school age in particular. Therefore, the main objective of the research was to analyse the relationship between different psychological variables, self-perception of physical fitness and intention to be physically active in a sample of 162 primary school students. The analyses found that support and satisfaction of basic psychological needs, more self-determined forms of motivation and a good perception of physical fitness were positively related to and predictive of intention to be physically active in students. In conclusion, the study shows how important it is for students to adopt more self-determined behaviours and have a good perception of their physical fitness in PE classes in order to adopt a more active lifestyle.
