Early detection and intervention are essential to reduce and prevent associated difficulties in children with CMD (De Oliveira et al., 2019). This study analyzed the degree of agreement between the perceived motor competence of parents of five and six years old children and their actual motor competence assessed objectively. The selection of the sample and data collection was carried out in three phases. In the first phase, the participants were preassigned to extreme groups after applying filter tests (n = 233) (M = 5.03, DS ± 1.21). In the second phase, the Movement Assessment Battery for Children (MABC-2) was used to confirm the motor competence of participants of each group, and in the third phase, the Coordination Development Disorder Questionnaire (CTDC'07) was administered to parents. The final sample consisted of Group A (n = 41) (M= 4.92, DS ± 0.58) children at or below the 15th percentile and Group B (n = 32) (M= 5.18, DS ± 0.59). children at or above the 75th percentile. The data showed significant misjudgment between what the parents perceived and the results obtained from the fulfilment of specific motor tests. Only 9.8% of the children in Group A were identifie with motor difficulties by their parents, indicating that they go unnoticed at an early age. These results underline the need to promote greater awareness and education among parents regarding children's motor development, as well as to implement objective assessments in educational and family contexts.
