Abstract

This study explores the relationship between physical activity engagement and self-control motivation among college students, focusing on self-control capacity internal and external motivation. A quantitative research design, specifically descriptive correlation, was used to examine the link between these variables. The respondents, comprising 249 college students, were selected using simple random sampling to ensure representation. Data was collected through validated instruments: the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) to measure physical activity engagement and a self-control motivation and capacity scale to assess students' self-regulation levels. Descriptive and inferential statistics, including Pearson's correlation coefficient, were applied to analyze the data and determine the relationships between physical activity engagement and self-control motivation and capacity. The findings revealed significant positive correlations between physical activity engagement and self-control capacity and between physical activity engagement and internal motivation, suggesting that physical activity may play a crucial role in enhancing students' self-control and intrinsic motivation. However, no significant relationship between physical activity engagement and external motivation was found. These results highlight the importance of promoting physical activity to improve students' self-control, motivation, and capacity. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by offering insights into how physical activity may support students’ self-regulation skills, ultimately informing policies and practices to enhance students' academic and personal development. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for more integrated approaches to self-regulation and physical activity in educational settings.
