Abstract
The study investigated the sexual prejudices of Filipino Gen Z young adults toward sports participation of LGBT individuals on their perceived stress due to masculine gender roles. It aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goal (SDG) 5: Gender Equality through addressing gender biases in the field of sports. A quantitative research design was utilized to select validated instruments. There were 400 Filipino Gen Z young adults from a state university in Region 3, aged 18 to 25, as the sample of the study was selected through simple random sampling. The Abbreviated Masculine Gender Role Stress (MGRS) Scale was used to quantify experienced gender role stress, the dependent variable of the study. As for the independent variable, the Sexual Prejudice in Sport Scale (SPSS) was used to assess prejudices toward LGBT participation in sports. Ethical clearance was taken with high consideration, and respondents completed the instruments, adhering to ethical research protocols and data confidentiality. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed using SPSS version 30 to investigate the predictive relationship between sexual prejudice in sports and MGRS. Results show that sexual prejudice influences stress felt due to masculinity gender roles among young males. This may imply that despite LGBT inclusion campaigns, it remains a strong predictor of MGRS among Filipino Generation Z young adults. These results suggest the need for deeper educational initiatives that explain and challenge gender biases in order to promote inclusiveness in sports and education. Future studies should adopt mixed-method approaches to capture personal experiences that can deepen the investigation of the relationship of the said variables. This further contributes to SDG 5 by fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment.
