From traditional marketing to liberation marketing
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article presents a description (in the Rortyan sense) of marketing that challenges the criticisms most commonly levelled against it. The study begins with a review of these criticisms, before moving on to analyse three types of business organisation in which traditional marketing contributes to the achievement of social benefits: cooperatives, social enterprises, and community-based enterprises. The analysis then looks at social marketing, whose main objective is the dissemination of ideas that benefit society as a whole. Finally, the article presents the idea of ‘liberation marketing’, a marketing aimed at freeing consumers from certain negative marketing practices. The text ends with a series of reflections that attempt to show the relationship between the author’s view of marketing and the conflicting notions of alienation and emancipation.
